What is pollution? Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment at a rate faster than the environment can accommodate. Environmental pollution is the contamination of the physical and biological components of planet Earth to such an extent that normal environmental processes are adversely affected. It can be broadly classified into air, water and soil.

History: Although pollution had been known to exist for a very long time, the onset of the industrial revolution during the 19th century, made it grow exponentially and a major concern of global proportions . Factors such as population growth and urbanization invariably place greater demands on the planet and stretch the use of natural resources to the maximum. Combustion of fossil fuels causes extremely high levels of air pollution is widely recognized as one of the most important causes of pollution. There are many many man made reasons for pollution.

Environmental pollution is causing a lot of distress not only to humans but also animals, driving many animal species to endangerment and even extinction.
